Sail with a vent: Yachting World:
There are several specialist downwind sails you can use for a tradewinds crossing of the Atlantic. One that comes up often and looks a little strange is the Parasailor. It is a spinnaker with a vent and is said to be better mannered than a traditional version and can be set with or without a pole.
Jimmy Cornell - Letters from Aventura - Cruising World Mag. 2004
"...it is strong winds that the parasailor really comes into its own..."
"the wind went up and up and peaked at 26 knots..."
"Meanwhile the parasailor was behaving as normally as before, but its slot was wind open, the flap streaming ahead, the large mouth acting as relief pressure valve and almost visibly spilling the wind. Wonderful!"
